Solution

1) Click on Start and Run

2) Type the following command and press Enter

services.msc

3) Scroll down to Windows Audio in the right-hand column and double-click on it, you should see a screen similar to this one.

4) Make sure the Startup Type is set to Automatic and click on the Start button under Service Status. The Windows Audio service should restart and the error with the volume control should be resolved.Windows XP No volume control?
the audio drivers may have been deleted by accident. try to go to device manager by going to start %26gt; run and type devmgmt.msc. go down to sound, video and game controllers. select your audio device, there should only be one unless u have a sound card or an external audio usb device. right click and hit ';check for updates'; and select to search automatically for updates from the manufacturer. also check there to see if the device is enabled and that there isnt some sort of notification showing that the device isnt functioning properly such as a ';yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it'; symbol.
The driver for the sound card is not installed.

You need to found out what the card (maybe onboard) is and install it.
because your uncle reformatted the PC not knowing what he was doing and forgot to install the drivers for the sound card and lord knows what else
I am assuming that you already have a graphics card(because you must have connected you speakers to some jack.) You will need to know what sound card you had :

Right click your my computer %26gt; click device manager.

You will get a list of your devices. Your sound card should be listed under ';sound, video and game controllers'; (with a speaker icon.) or other devices icon ( with a yellow question mark icon.)

If there is conflict with any of the drivers the driver itself will be marked with yellow question mark.

Now try to get the sound card brand by right clicking the device and clicking ';properties';.

In the general tab and see the device manufacturer. Go to the website of the manufacturer and download the driver.

If the manufacturer is unknown then you need to contact you uncle about the card.

Check which mother board you have and download the manual of that motherboard to know if it has on-board sound. Then you can easily download the driver from the motherboard website.

In case you have connected your speakers to your front jack of PC, then you should know that it does not mean you have a sound card. Check the back of your PC.
Your problem is fairly simple. I fixed a computer just the other day with the same problem. More than likely you got a bad audio software that's not compatible with either your system and/or your sound card (integrated or after-market). This can occur when you receive automatic updates or install the wrong sound drivers and such... First thing to do! Go to Add/Remove Programs and look for something that has to do with sound or audio. For example: Conexant Audio Software. Uninstall the program and if it was the right one your audio should just miraculously start working, just like that. (Caution!: Be careful with just uninstalling software at random. Be smart about what you uninstall.) If you have trouble finding any audio type programs in the list you might make a list of the most likely ones and then Google them to see if they have to do with audio. If an audio software cannot be found or if uninstalling the audio software does not solve the problem you may need audio drivers for you motherboard's integrated sound card or for your after-market sound card.

Hope this fixes your problem buddy ! ! !
