Why do I see 'no audio device' under volume tab of the Sound and Audio Device' in the Control Panel?

This is continuation of 'no speaker icon' question. Why do I see 'no audio device' under volume tab of the Sound and Audio Device' in the Control Panel?
start %26gt; control panel %26gt; sound and audio devices

click on sounds tab

At the bottom choose a program event, and it will display a drop down menu under sounds. If you click on it many default sounds will be listed, choose one and click on the play button , you should hear a sound. if you do not listen any sound here then you have to reinstall the sound drivers.

no audio drives are installed or problem installing one
My best guess is that you need to reinstall the sound card driver.
