Do these actually work, or are they a sham?BARK CONTROL DOG COLLAR/Safe/HUMANE/No Shock question?
my teacher's dog had one, but she had to give the dog away since it didn't work on her dog. the dog barked at anything that moved (nothing). it's neck had a burn on it. So if your dog never learned what the collar was telling it, don't use it!BARK CONTROL DOG COLLAR/Safe/HUMANE/No Shock question?
They work, but for best results you should also take an obedience class.
I had a friend who had multiple dogs.... but they only bought one for one dog. And any time one of the other dogs barked, it would zap the dog that had it on...
it was quite sad.
i have both the zap and the spray, the spray doesnt work on my female mini poodle, it just turns her into an air freshener
the zap works but can make them a little jumpy and paranboid and eventually they learn how to get around it by only barking once or howling
They work for some dogs, other dogs don't care.
However, dogs can also tell when they collar is on and working and when it's not. So they don't bark when the collar is on and bark twice as much when it's off.
Instead of debating about the collar, it's much better to train the dog not to bark. Then you don't have to worry about it.
Some folks will say they always leave the bark collar on, however, then what happens when you want the dog to bark, i.e., they need to go outside or there is something outside that they want to warn you about - it's better to have the dog bark occassionally for warnings and to train them when not to bark.
not good..:)
The non electric bark collars don't work a bit better than the electric bark collars for the same reason. All they teach a dog is how to avoid the discomfort of the collar, they do not teach the dog not to bark. Unless you are there to give the dog a verbal command every time the collar goes off you are not teaching your dog a thing.
Not much different than being fooled into thinking that a fence has taught the dog to stay in the yard. Ya right, leave the gate open then!!
I have used a shock collar, and it did work. Follow the package directions and be care full. Mine only took a 6 volt battery. Who hasn't stuck a 9volt to there tongue when they were kids, did it hurt most would say no it was just uncomfortable. My brother even used it on himself first to see how strong it was. He put it up to his throat, it didn't really hurt, he just felt it.
The citronella collars actually have twice the success rate of the shock collars. If this is the collar you are asking about, there are no guarantees, but your chances for success are much greater...keep in mind that you'll still have some training to do, these collars are training aids, not babysitters. I hope it works for you.
The citronella collars work very well for some dogs and not so well for other dogs. I have one because I foster dogs. Some of them get sprayed once and stop barking. Others will bark and empty the collar. Depends on the dog. Your best bet is to teach the dog what is and isn't appropriate barking.
